The following message is from the Miller family, three sweet kids who are making their impact in the fight against child sex slavery:
Did you know that SLAVERY still exists today? Did you know that it is happening right here in our own cities? Slavery doesn't just describe an 18th century plantation owner who forced human beings to labor in cotton fields without pay. Slavery is essentially when someone who has power exploits those with little or no power for their own gain. It is when victims are held against their own will, in order for the "master" to profit. Each day women and children (especially girls ages 11 – 17) are bought and sold for profit. Today it's called by a different name; it's called HUMAN TRAFFICKING.
Human Trafficking is a global problem, but it touches very near to our homes. The United States has a thriving (albeit secretive) human trafficking industry. Atlanta is one of the country's leading destinations for the buying and selling of humans for labor and worse.
We are just normal kids. We thought that all kids were like us. We go to school, play sports and hang out with our friends. Many American kids will never get to do these things. Many kids are hiding and helpless, and they have little hope for a future. The more we learn about human trafficking, the more we want to do something to HELP!
We have an IDEA! Will you HELP us?
We are starting a campaign called Flowers for Freedom 'A Beautiful Way to Stop Human Trafficking'. You can purchase spring-flowering bulbs from us through a company called Brecks. My mom has ordered their flowers for several years, and she says that they guarantee them. You order from us, and Brecks will ship the bulbs to your home in time for fall planting, and they will give us 45% of the sale to give to Innocence Atlanta. www.innocenceatlanta.org We've attached a flier that we helped our parents make that has more details, and a link to a video that we created and posted on YouTube. Please check these out, and let us know if you would like to help.
We have learned that no matter who you are, you can help. If you don't need flowers, would you consider making a donation directly to Innocence Atlanta? Or, if you are short on cash (like us), would you consider volunteering, or even just forwarding our email to anyone that you might know that you think would want to help us too?
That's it! Thanks for taking the time to Help us fight Slavery.
